Kill Devil Hills '62 from The Ash Wednesday Storm by David Stick

50th Anniversay of the Ash Wednesday Storm
Many are probably unaware that arguably the worst storm in Outer Banks' history was not a hurricane.  The Ash Wednesday Storm of 1962 was a nor'easter that rapidly intensified causing widespread overwash in northern NC.  It's unexpected development caught most by surprise, and the multi-day event yielded 40 deaths on the East Coast.  A review article by Frank Tursi of the NC Coastal Federation released this week describes the event and its NC impacts.  Please read it and consider getting a copy of David Stick's book on the subject which provides vivid descriptions and photographs. You will be amazed.
